As part of our first study abroad project before we take off to Barcelona, I was given a list of some of Chicago’s famous landmarks and had to take selfies in front of them. To be honest, I thought this was an easy task until I actually began shooting. Snapping selfies in such highly populated areas was uncomfortable at first and made me feel like a tourist on my own turf. As the project progressed, so did my confidence in standing in front of a large crowd and shamelessly extending my arm out to snap a photo. I was beneficially pushed out of my comfort zone. My favorite experience through the project was navigating the city with Lindsey, the TA for the program. I wouldn’t have wanted to drive, illegally park, turn on my emergency lights, and then switch seats with anyone else.
