It is very easy to spot a tourist; their fanny packs, selfie sticks, tour bus rides, and confused expressions always give them away.  However, in attempt to gain empathy for the locals of Barcelona I will be living with for the next month, I swallowed my pride as a Chicagoan and took on the role of selfie stick bearing tourist.  Despite feeling very uncomfortable taking selfies in places that I pass by daily, I found that I became more observant of Chicago’s layout.  I noticed that the plazas were nice to congregate in, but the majority of the city of Chicago consists of skyscrapers and transit centers that encourage movement, not leisure.
